Project “DIADEM – Domain-centric Intelligent Automated Data Extraction Methodology”

The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for one Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the area of identification and design of tractable languages for ontological query answering with applications in data extraction.  The goal of this project is the development of methods and systems for automatically extracting highly structured relevant information for domain-specific Websites (see http://diadem-project.info/ for more information).

The project, which is led by Professor Georg Gottlob, covers a wide range of research areas including; logical and algorithmic fundamentals of data extraction, design and study of new (logic-) programming languages, knowledge representation, machine learning, domain ontology design, semi-structured data, description logics, ontological reasoning, web site analysis, natural language processing, software engineering, and cloud computing.

This post is a full time appointment, and is available to start on or after 1st July 2012, for a duration of 6 months.  The salary will be on the University Grade 7 scale (currently £29,249 – £35,938 p.a.).

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or some other relevant discipline, and should be skilled in video analysis; have experience with statistical analysis of meta-information and experimental data of behavior screens; have several years of experience handling screen and behavior data in state-of-the-art biological environments. They should have a track record of relevant scientific publications; possess excellent scientific-writing and strong programming skills.  The post will require occasional travel to conferences and co-operation with partners in the EU and in America.
