Research Assistant on Factorised Databases, Fixed-term for one year, with the possibility of extension, Starting as soon as possible, Grade 7: £30,434 – £37,394 p.a.

Posted: 20th January 2015

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford has an opening for a full-time Research Assistant at the postdoctoral level, for an initial period of one year, starting as soon as possible.  You would be working on the FDB project, on the topic of succinct representations of relational data.  This aims to understand the benefit that factorised representations can bring to query evaluation in relational databases.  Further information on the project can be found at: http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/projects/FDB

You would be performing research independently, and in collaboration with Associate Professor Dan Olteanu. Collaboration with industrial partners on using succinct data representations for distributed database systems is also expected.

Candidates should have, or shortly be expecting to obtain, a PhD in Computer Science, preferably with a focus on databases, must have a solid record on building systems and/or on database theory, and a good publication record.

The post is initially available for one year, and very likely to be extended, has a salary on the University grade 07S scale (currently £30,434 – £37,394 p.a.), includes membership of the University pension scheme and has an annual leave entitlement of 38 days per year (inclusive of all public holidays and university closed periods).

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 19 February 2015.
