The “A Massively Scalable Intelligent Information Infrastructure (MaSI3)” project, led by Professor Boris Motik of the Information Systems research group, has a full-time vacancy for a focussed Research Assistant. The project aims to lay both the theoretical and the practical foundations for a massively scalable intelligent information infrastructure capable of powering modern data-intensive applications.

You would be contributing to the research of the group by undertaking research in the areas of knowledge representation and reasoning, databases, ontologies, and the Semantic Web.

The primary selection criteria are a PhD in Computer Science (or close to completion), specialising in knowledge representation, automated reasoning, databases, or related area; the ability to analyse and prototype computational complexity theory and deduction algorithms,  and experience of developing research articles for publication.

The post, which is a full-time appointment, is funded by EPSRC, and is available for up to 2 years and 9 months. It has a salary on the University grade 07S scale (currently £30,434 to £37,394 p.a.). This includes membership of the University Superannuation Scheme (USS) and has an annual leave entitlement of 38 days per year (inclusive of all public holidays and university closed periods).
