Royal Institution Masterclasses in Computer Science: Year 10, 2021
Week 6, 10 July: Analysing Social Media Data
Today's Session
Today we are going to be investigating social media data with some python code, to see if we can find some new things out about the world. The workshop is in sections, and each section works in the same way. They each have a worksheet and a repl.it script. For each section of the workshop you will need to open the worksheet and the repl.it code - I would recommend having them side-by-side on your screen if you can. The worksheet will start with a description of the code, followed by a coding challenge and/or some questions to investigate with the code. First of all, make sure that you understand what the code is doing. Please ask if anything doesn't make sense. Then you should be able to proceed with the questions.
In order to access repl.it you will need to head on over to this page!
Here is the link to join the team.
- Section 1 - Introduction to the Data and the Code
- Section 2 - Procesing the data
- Section 3 - Filtering the Data
- Section 4 - Sentiment Analysis
Who will I meet during today's sessions?
Today's academic session will be led by Ben Dornan from the Royal Institution. From the Computer Science staff side we have Sarah Baldwin and Leanne Carveth. We also have two student ambassadors: Ipshita and Hsin-Lei. We've put together a page where you can find out more about some of the people you will meet regularly during the RIMC programme.
End of programme feedback
You may remember that back at the start of these sessions, we asked you to fill out a pre-programme evaluation form. We would now like to understand a bit about how your thoughts have evolved over the six weeks. What did you enjoy? How could we improve things for next year's cohort? Please share your thoughts with us using this form.
