Royal Institution Masterclasses in Computer Science: Year 10, 2021
Introduction
Thank you for joining us at the Royal Institution Masterclasses in Computer Science event.
You will see on the left-hand-side of this page that there is a link for each weekly session. (We've not populated all the pages yet, but please don't jump ahead!) Each week please navigate to the relevant page to find everthing you need for the session.
Towards the bottom of the side bar you will find information about the team of people whom you will be meeting over the coming weeks, and also some resources and further reading should we inspire you to want to learn more. You are welcome to explore these at any point.
Slido question and answer tool
Please do ask questions during the sessions using the Slido question and answer tool you will find on each page. We look forward to chatting to you!
Problems joining the Teams calls?
If you are having problems joining any of the weekly Teams calls please start by closing down your browser and reopening it. Copy and paste the URL for the session into your browser, rather than clicking on it. If that doesn't work, try opening an incognito/private window and repeating these steps. Have you double-checked you've got the link for the right week? Still having problems? Please drop us an email on csrimasterclasses@cs.ox.ac.uk and we'll try to help you.
Don't forget: set your screen name to just show your first name. Please don't share your family name with the other delegates.
Do I need to turn my microphone/camera on?
There is no need to have your camera or microphone on during the sessions. From a teaching point of view it makes it easier for us if you do; but it's entirely up to you and what you're comfortable with. Please do use the Slido tool to ask questions of us during the sessions too.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
A pen and paper and a sense of humour would be great. You might also want to have a drink and some snacks to hand. Thinking is hard work....
Coffee time conundrum
If you find yourself with a few minutes to spare, take a look at the 'Coffee time conundrum', in pink on each page. (Opens in a new window.) Big questions to get you thinking!
We would love to hear your thoughts
The best way we can improve our Masterclasses for future year groups is to find out what you thought about think about them. We'd like to understand how you're feeling at the start, and compare that to what you think by the end of this set of six week sessions. (Sadly we can't do much about the pandemic scuppering our plans.) Please take a few minutes to fill out this pre-programme form. We will ask you to fill in a very quick form after each session, just so we can judge how you're finding things.
Housekeeping
If you have any problems during the event please contact us via email.
You can find the Code of Conduct and Safeguarding information for this programem here.Thank you!
The Oxford RI Masterclasses in Computer Science are supported by Morgan Stanley so a big thank you to them, and to everyone involved in putting together the programme. We'd also like to say a big thank you to all of you lovely students for joining our programme. We understand online teaching is tough, and we're delighted you are giving up your Saturdays to be with us.
