Marc Schmitt

Biography

Dr. Marc Schmitt is a researcher in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford and the founder and director of the DEIM Research Institute. Before returning to research, he was Senior IT Partner for Equity Finance and Strategic Development at Siemens Financial Services, and earlier a management consultant advising global banks and corporates on finance, risk management, and digital transformation.

Research Interests

His research sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, business analytics, digital ecosystems, and financial economics. His work spans: (i) AI-driven decision-making in finance and business, including the Algorithmic Markets research programme; (ii) digital ecosystem innovation, management, and governance; (iii) cybersecurity and systemic risk in digitally connected socio-technical systems; and (iv) the societal and economic impact of technological innovation. Marc advocates for forward-looking research: meeting today's challenges requires a shift from retrospective analysis to future-oriented investigation.
