Biography
Sophie Gibbons joined the Department of Computer Science as Head of Administraiton and Finance in September 2022 with over 20 years' business management experience in the private, public, and 3rd sectors. Most recently, she worked as the Head of Administration and Finance in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention, having previously held the position of Business Administration Manager for the Children's Social Care and Youth Justice Service for Oxfordshire County Council.
Sophie has expertise in change management, organisational transformation, and team building, and holds memberships with AUA and CIPD.
As Head of Administration and Finance, Sophie works alongside the Head of Department and MPLS Divisional colleagues. SHe has built a network that includes University staff, Heads of Administration and Finance within and external to MPLS.
With the Head of Department, Sophie has responsibility forproviding startegic leadership in relaiton to policy, planning, development, growth, and financial sustainability.
Leading a team of Professional Services Staff and Managers, Sophie has overall responsibility for all operational aspects of the Department including:
- Human Resources
- Recruitment and retention
- Talent management
- Budgets and financial control
- Academic administration
- Research facilitation and pre and post-award grant management
- Health & Safety and security
- IT
- Communications
- Facilities management
