Studentships

The department offers a range of studentships, which provide funding for postgraduate students to carry out research and are normally provided by a Research Council or through a combination of funds from partners, sponsors and the department. Studentships differ from scholarships, which are offered by the University to graduate students and cover some, or all, of your course fees and living costs.

Both studentships and scholarships enable talented students to progress in their studies, when they otherwise may not be able to, and are highly sought after.

Funded studentships with EPSRC

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funds several research students in the department every year, covering course fees and offering a grant for living costs from UKRI. If you are an applicant for our DPhil (PhD) courses and have home fee status, you will automatically be considered for this funding, so you cannot apply separately. If you have overseas fee status, you may also be considered for a small number of the EPSRC awards.

Other DPhil Studentships

We also offer studentships funded by various partners, sponsors and the department. When available, studentships will be listed below.

DPhil (PhD) Teaching Assistant opportunities

The department also employs DPhil research students each year as Teaching Assistants. Details will be provided below when these studentships become available.

Graduate scholarships and other funding opportunities

The University also offers a variety of scholarship programmes based on academic excellence, giving candidates from around the world the opportunity to pursue graduate study. You can find out more about scholarships, plus other graduate funding opportunities from the University's Graduate Funding pages. The helpful fees, funding and scholarship search tool will enable you to find out about the cost of studying and living at Oxford, as well as discover scholarship opportunities.
